These high-drive dogs and their dedicated handlers serve the greater Madison, Wisconsin community.
The Madison Police Department currently has seven active-duty K9s: six are dual-purpose and one is an explosives and firearms detection specialist. They hit the streets with their human partners every day. They track and find people, search buildings, detect drugs and explosives, and apprehend suspects. The cost to build and maintain a K9 unit is significant, but their work is invaluable.
